Further to my previous reply, the double stack road trains have a limited life, more as a shuttle in Ports. not suitable for roads no matter how powerful the trucks are the road trains can only travel at low speed and the chance of tipping over are great with the truck traversing bends and load shifting which is prevalent occurrence with general heavy vehicle freight.

I think the Port of Singapore tried this out about 2 decades ago. I thought they’re still doing them but not too sure about that.

Not on this topic, but I’d love to get regular updates from you Marcus on the various projects that are supposed to be happening.
The Metro Tunnel – I saw trains parked at the South Yarra entrance/exit last week;
The Airport Rail Link – suspended?
The Loop starting at Cheltenham and how it fits in – if it does – with the latest thought bubble from the Victorian Planning Authority on plonking 60,000 new affordable homes spread over 10 Activity Centres around the Metro area (one of which is Moorabbin although the Loop starts at Cheltenham and avoids Moorabbin altogether…);
Any others that I can’t remember…

Will never replace rail and only a publicity stunt. May only be suitable within the Port region.
As for the road train, we already have them, but a new model of fast train freight shipments in the UK are outstripping intermodal.
Freight trains can be slow and relying on single rail which is common on ARTC tracks only adds to the frustration for transport shippers.
