I’m currently reading the 1987 book Struggle For Take Off: The British Airways Story by Duncan Campbell-Smith, and the start of chapter 4 contained an interesting anecdote about Sir Freddie Laker, founder of Laker Airways – free first class air travel on any airline!

You don’t need to wait for a billions of dollars to drop from the sky to improve Melbourne’s public transport – making small tweaks to existing services and infrastructure can often make things a little better, and for far less money. Managing my various web sites can be difficult at times, and my experience the other weekend was no different. My day started normally enough, as I logged onto my VPS and installed the latest security patches, then set to work on uploading new photos to my site. It was then I noticed my web site was taking minutes to load pages, not seconds, so I started to dig into the cause.
