Another instalment in my photos from ten years ago series – this time October 2005.
When passing through Southern Cross Station I came across a freight train delivering construction supplies.
The rollout of the the new Metlink signage across Melbourne’s rail network was underway.
I wasn’t able to score any of the old ‘The Met’ station nameboards.
But there was plenty of old Connex and Bayside Trains branding visible around the network.
But some locations went back even further – here MetRail, The Met, Bayside Trains, Connex and Metlink styled signage is visible!

Footnote
I accidentally published my September and October 2015 installments in the wrong order – hence the dates on the comments predate the publication date at the top of this post.
The map inside the train is interesting. I’d forgotten that The Met brand overlapped with the Connex/Bayside period.
(At least this map showed the entire network, unlike some.)
I knew I’d seen a ‘Connex only’ network maps somewhere.

Those old station signs, where the writing was bigger and thus took up more of the sign, were easier to read.
The purple Viclink signage uses a larger typeface than the blue Metlink signs found in suburban Melbourne.
However there is one odd exception – past of of the station upgrades for electrification, Sunbury and Diggers Rest received blue suburban style signs with the larger text.
